Electronic Shades Displays Are Now in Both Lighting Showrooms

Posted on Dec 31, 2017 by Andrea

We're thrilled to announce that we have electronic shades displays in our Waltham (shown above) and Allston lighting showrooms.

Earlier this year, we merged with System 7 and The Boston Shade Company, and we couldn't wait to get motorized shades into both showrooms. We're committed to being a "one stop shop" for all of your lighting and lighting control needs. And these displays go a long way in helping us achieve that goal.

When you walk into our Waltham and Allston stores, you'll still see all of our incredible lighting fixtures and lighting labs…but you'll also be able to see our shades in action as well. Here's a sneak peek…

Our Holiday Lighting Tips

Posted on Dec 19, 2017 by admin

It's the most wonderful time of the year, or so the famous song goes…but we're willing to bet that you can make it even BETTER if you give some thought to your lighting.

Here are a few of our tried and true holiday lighting tips that are sure to make your parties and family get-togethers even merrier.

  1. Plug in your light strings before you begin decorating. Testing them first is a smart strategy because having to unstring most of your handiwork to replace a burned out bulb will not leave you feeling joyful.

  1. Do a dry run. A night or so before the big party, walk through the house and see if the lighting poses any issues. Venture outside as well, checking for any hazards your guests might encounter on their way to your front door. Replace burned out lamps and make sure that pathways are illumi
nated. (Check out some other exterior lighting strategies here.)

Boston Shade Company Spotlight: Meet Lindsay Jordan

Posted on Dec 16, 2017 by Andrea

Back in October, we started a new feature on our blog where we shine the spotlight on our fabulous team members from Wolfers, System 7, and The Boston Shade Company. Our first feature focused on Timothy Carroll, the assistant showroom manager in the Waltham lighting store.

Next up is Lindsay Jordan, our resident shade expert and sales associate with The Boston Shade Company.

Q: How long have you been with The Boston Shade Company?

Lindsay: I started in December 2013 in our Design Center showroom. My initial focus was on small-scale projects and managing the showroom.

Q: Why electronic shades? Why this industry?

Lindsay: My mother has a full-service interior design studio (punchjordan home) in Cleveland, Ohio, so I was fortunate to grow up in the design industry. Her studio specializes in custom upholstery and window drapery.

After being with punchjordan full time for 15 years, I found my way to Boston.

Introducing Philips Hue in our Waltham Lighting Showroom

Posted on Dec 10, 2017 by Andrea

We're thrilled to announce the arrival of Philips Hue to our Waltham lighting showroom.

What is Philips Hue?

Combining the energy efficiency of LED with wireless technology, Philips Hue lamps and light switches easily integrate with your tablet, smartphone, and other interfacing devices.

As the Philips Hue website says, "Philips Hue is your personal wireless lighting system that lets you easily control your light and create the right ambiance for every moment. Bring your smart home to life with the most connected light in the world."

Philips Hue is available in three flavors:

  • Hue White. Experience easy control of LED lamps in color temperatures that are similar to your existing lamps.
  • Hue White Ambiance. Remember our article about tunable white LEDs? The Philips Hue White Ambiance can provide similar effects, whether you want a blue-white light when you wake up or warmer white when you're reading at night.
  • Hue White and Color Ambiance. This flavor essentially combines tunable white with RGB technology, resulting in bright colors as well as a range of white light outputs.

Hot Lighting Trends

Posted on Dec 03, 2017 by Andrea

We like to keep up with the latest lighting trends, and the ones below show no signs of slowing down.

 1. Meet us at the intersection of 1960 and 2017. Channel your inner hippie and get ready to fall in love with funky orbs and sputnik-style chandeliers that include mixed metals and artisanal glass for a fresh look. The Mara Pendant from Tech Lighting (above) is a great example of this trend. See it in Aged Brass in our Waltham showroom.

2. Get your sparkle on. Crystal accents continue to trend. We're seeing these fun sparkly accents in unexpected places or in conjunction with more streamlined, contemporary silhouettes.
