Luxury Lighting Brands That Will WOW

Posted on Dec 30, 2016 by Andrea

Unique spaces deserve unique lighting, but finding truly unique pieces isn't as easy as you might think. You won't find these pieces in big box stores. And trusting what you see online isn't the same as experiencing a fixture in person.

Luckily, lighting showrooms like ours cater to discerning tastes. Are you passionate about impeccable artistry? One-of-kind custom fixtures? Heirloom pieces? We have all that—and more.

See, we’re also passionate about lighting products that use high quality materials, innovative designs, and incredible skill.

Below is a sampling of the luxury lighting brands we carry. Remember, seeing is truly believing. Be sure to stop by one of our lighting showrooms to experience these products—and more—in person.

Sonneman is Synonymous with Innovation.

In 1961 at the age of 19, Robert Sonneman began his illustrious career under the watchful gaze of lighting and accessory retailer George Kovacs, who introduced young Robert to Modernism. Today, Sonneman describes himself as a "modernist with a historical sensibility," a point of view that has served him well over the last five decades. In 2003, at 61 years young, the legendary designer launched his own brand: SONNEMAN – A Way of Light.

At Wolfers, we're huge fans of Sonneman's lighting fixtures—and not just because of their modern designs. They also incorporate excellent materials and LED technology. Here are several pieces that are sure to please.

Sonneman "Spire" and "Trinity" Chandeliers. These clear pieces of glass carry the light in the chrome tops and distribute it below the fixture,

4 Reasons to Visit a Wolfers Lighting Lab

Posted on Dec 17, 2016 by Andrea

If you're looking for lighting inspiration for your home, it's easy to become quickly overwhelmed. The solution? A visit to a Wolfers lighting lab.

Here are four ways our lighting labs help homeowners on the hunt for the perfect fixture.

1. You get the latest LED technology at the flip of a switch.
See the newest generation of LED recessed lights, undercabinet lights, lighting controls, and other light fixtures. We're constantly updating our labs with what's new, popular, and tested. Which brings us to our next point.

2. You can count on tested LED products that work.
We're incredibly thoughtful about our lighting lab displays. We use products that offer reliability in the specific setting shown (e.g. kitchen, bathroom, etc.). You're bound to find a product that works for your budget. Not only that, but we often keep displayed fixtures in stock, which helps shorten your lead times.

3. You'll experience our lighting products in real life.
Looking at fixtures online or in catalogs isn't the same as experiencing the light fixture in person—and in an environment that acts and feels like the environment in which the product will live in a real home or office.

The Passive House: How LEDs Complement this Initiative

Posted on Dec 12, 2016 by Andrea

If you've spent any time researching energy-efficient homes, you've likely come across the concept of "the passive house."

What is a passive house?

According to Passive House Massachusetts, a passive house is "is a voluntary international building standard developed by the Passive House Institute (PHI), located in Darmstadt, Germany."

This building standard is all about rigorous energy efficiency. Think superinsulation, airtight building "envelopes," high-performance windows, and effective exploitation of solar energy (i.e. "solar gain"). It's about achieving comfortable air temperatures year-round without heating or cooling systems, thanks to the building's design, materials, and stringent standards.

The Passive House Institute US explains, "Passive building comprises a set of design principles used to attain a quantifiable and rigorous level of energy efficiency within a specific quantifiable comfort level. 'Maximize your gains, minimize your losses' summarize the approach."

Here's a 90-second video that provides an excellent easy-to-understand overview:

Staff Picks: The Best Under Cabinet Lighting

Posted on Dec 05, 2016 by Andrea

Under cabinet lighting provides excellent (and convenient) task lighting. Here are some of our current staff picks for the best under cabinet lighting.

Staff Pick for "Quick Weekend Under Cabinet Project"

AFX Pro Undercabinet. We love this fixture for its ease of use. Each one comes with a cord and plug, or you can opt to hardwire it (and use a short jumper cable to connect multiple lights together). Another thing to love: the hi-low switch and color-temperature slider. Just install and select between warm, neutral, and cooler white light to best suit your countertop.
